Protocol for the Connection and Reporting of Operational Variables for the Verification of Environmental Commitments of the SMA: what is coming.

On October 22, the Superintendency of the Environment published in the Official Gazette the protocol for the connection and reporting of operational variables for the verification of environmental commitments.

The instructions set forth in Resolution No. 2,051, put into effect this agile way of monitoring environmental commitments with online information.

In a complementary manner, the SMA confirms that it has established the obligation to report information that allows verifying compliance with the shutdown obligations in critical episode management periods (GEC).

What’s next?

“The automatic control of environmental commitments is the beginning of a revolution in environmental management and sustainability,” says Gonzalo Asencio, general manager of Gisma, adding: “We have to keep up with the technological progress of the environmental authority in monitoring and control”.

“This protocol advances in automatic connectivity for the control of environmental variables, applying in this case to boilers that do not have a CEMS (Continuous Emission Monitoring System) installed and that operate in areas with prevention and decontamination plans,” explains the civil engineer.

For the largest of these emission sources, online monitoring must be sending data to the SMA no later than July 22, 2021, so these companies must update their systems as soon as possible.

Thus, it is now up to the affected stationary sources to connect online to the SMA’s electronic platforms, according to their production process, fuel and permitted possibilities.

For this purpose, they must be registered, providing key information to determine the connection mode, considering the data quality assurance actions detailed in the document.

This last point is what Gonzalo Asencio emphasizes the most: “At SIGEA Software we have a telemetry system designed to connect in accordance with the protocol published by the SMA” .

According to the official communiqué, for the Superintendent of the Environment, Cristóbal De La Maza, this is a relevant milestone in the Environmental Intelligence Strategy that is being developed.

“With this, we are substantially improving the efficiency and effectiveness of our control work in times of pandemic,” said the authority.

In a complementary manner, during this same period, the use of the Unique Key is being implemented as a mechanism to access the different reports of the SMA, which also has a term of 30 days to be requested.

In a complementary manner, the SMA confirms that it has established the obligation to report information that allows verifying compliance with the shutdown obligations in critical episode management periods (GEC).
