SIGEA Software at Water Congress 2023: Digital Transformation in Mining Water Management

In the cosmopolitan setting of the Sheraton Hotel in Santiago, more than 340 delegates from 18 countries gathered to participate in one of the most outstanding events in the water industry: the Water Congress 2023.

This annual congress brings together experts, industry leaders and decision makers from around the world to discuss the trends and challenges facing water management.

This year, the congress featured more than 90 talks and presentations, addressing a wide range of topics related to water management. Among all the outstanding presentations, one in particular attracted the attention of the audience: SIGEA Software.

The focus was clear: “Digital Transformation for Sustainable Water Management in Mining”. Our CEO, Gonzalo Asencio and Marcela Venegas, Hydrogeologist, Water Resources Manager and Master in Groundwater Hydrology, shared their vision on how technology can revolutionize water management in such a crucial sector as mining.

The audience consisted of experts, academics, government representatives and industry leaders, all with a common interest in sustainability in an industry known for its high water consumption.

The presentation ranged from the increasing pressure on water resources in the mining industry and the need to meet the demands of multiple stakeholders, to the challenges facing water resource management and existing regulation.

Another issue that our experts brought to the table was watershed governance and how the dispersion of information and its low quality hinder timely decision making.

As SIGEA Software, the concrete solution we advocate is to continue on the path of digital transformation. In this sense, the importance of adopting information technologies, talents and processes to remain competitive in an ever-changing technological landscape is imperative.

In addition, the need to align strategies with ESG criteria was emphasized, incorporating sustainability in three dimensions: economic, social and environmental, as part of the business strategy.

The Water Congress attendees learned about SIGEA Software’s corporate information architecture and the various technologies used, integration of  remote sensors, connections with chemical analysis laboratories, mobile applications and cloud storage.

The methodology presented by Marcela and Gonzalo, specific to the mining industry, highlighted the importance of collaboration and integrated watershed management to address material water risks, including water availability, human consumption and water quality.

SIGEA Software’s presentation at Water Congress 2023 sought to generate passionate discussions about how technology can revolutionize water management, primarily in the mining industry.

After this successful presentation, we are hopeful that the various delegates will want to take these ideas back to their respective organizations and contribute to a more sustainable future in water management worldwide.
